Harry Patch

Sad to read of the death today of Harry Patch, following on so closely to the death of Henry Allingham. Harry was in the same regiment as my grandfather – I wonder if they knew each other.

Rest in peace.

I missed the news at the weekend so have only just found out about Harry Patch. That is very sad news, as was the recent death of Henry Allingham.
I don't know whether or not Harry Patch was able to get put and about, but Henry Allingham did a lot of work going into schools to talk to children about the First World War. He was still doing his school visits last year as my son said he met him when he visited his secondary school.
It is amazing to think that these veterans were able to inspire children a century younger than themselves!
