Adoption Records

Postby andreacampbell » Mon May 25, 2009 6:26 pm

My grandad born in 1921 and now sadly past, was bought up by his adoptive parents in London. However, he always maintained that he was born in Canada to an unmarried chambermaid, although said he had no further information.

He lost touch with his adoptive family after serving in the Second World War and relocating to the Midlands (his relationship with his father was difficult).

Does anyone know if it is possible to get hold of adoptive records in this instance and where would I go to get them?

Thanks Andrea

It's a longshot but Dr Barnardo's may be able to help as it is possible his mother was a Barnado's child who went to Canada. Perhaps she came back with the baby and he was adopted afterwards?
