Can anyone help identify motorbike

Postby RobertSE6 » Sun Oct 28, 2007 3:23 pm

I know this is a long shot but can anyone tell me anything about the transportation in this picture - I think the photo is probably pre WW1 - the man driving was born in 1860 - anyone know what the bike/'bathchair' might be?!

The driver was an engineer so I guess he could have built it himself or at least adapted it to carry his wife on the front?

Hi Robert
As a bike enthusiast, could I make some suggestions. Have you thought of contacting the motor museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire, they have many early bikes. There is a museum devoted to bikes, but I can't remember where it is offhand. You could also try contacting one of the classic bike magazines for help, bikers are a helpful and knowledgeable bunch.
Sorry I can't give any definitive help, but I hope these will give you some ideas of where to get help.
I think I may have seen a vehicle like that in the picture somewhere, but can't recall where, sorry.

Hi Robert - Just seen your query on the Forum page of the magazine. My husband, who is an old bike fan, suggests two possibilities for you to try:

"Old Bike Mart", a magazine www.oldbikemart.co.uk
Vintage Motor Cycle Club www.vmcc.net

Hope these may be able to help

Best wishes

Thanks Barbara

I'll try those links

In the meantime I am delighted to say that someone has come up with an answer - its printed in this month's

It is apparently a Phelon and Moore Forecar from about 1904 - 08

The magazine said that the email from the person who contacted them has been forwarded to me but I haven't got it yet

So, if they are reading this many thanks to Alan Pett and Phil Crosby and please get in touch!
