Anyone into horse racing history?

Wed Mar 18, 2009 11:13 pm

I have an old photo of a mystery jockey in the family album. Apparently, the photographer (E Young) was active in Newmarket about 1916-1921 ish. Grateful for any help. Kat

I can not say that I know much about horse racing but it looks to me that the jockey may be wearing silks of the royal household. Have you approached the national horse racing museum at Newmarket as they may be able to throw more light on the subject of the photograph and possibly who he rode for. They can be reached via

Unfortunately, yes, I've been onto them and they are 'umming and 'arhing! Thought it may be a young Danny Maher - the American jockey who came over here. We do have the name Wragg connected to the family, as well, though they are not blood relatives. Whoever it is, he's so young I'm not sure his mother knew he was out, let alone riding horses for a living!

If you Google Danny Maher - the American jockey, there are some pictures and his 'uniform' looks the same. Good luck. Pete.
