HOW MUCH LONGER?

Postby pre1837 » Tue Nov 11, 2008 6:10 pm

...are we going to be subjected by this type of advertising that is appearing every weekend and not even being removed, despite of it being reported, even on the Monday. Perhaps the application to join should be suspended over the weekend as it seem that there are not any mods viewing the site over the weekends, and it is always 'new members' who are posting.
Interested in the surname SNELL circa 1910, Middlesex. and Claudia Vail nee Snell, living and married in Canada from about 1912/16.

I logged in this evening and did the usual - clicked onto 'posts since last visit' - and.......

It was really hard work. Three pages and only half a page of genuine subscribers. I feel I have to be so careful in case I click on a porn site, etc.

I agree with Pre1837 this is happening at weekends, however the latest batch appears today - 11/11/2008 - a Tuesday!

I'm really sorry about all the spam that has been going onto the website. We are going to set up a system whereby anyone joining the forum will be checked first to see if they are a bona fide user. The trouble is, this will mean that it takes people longer to join and I'm worried it may put people off. Still, I'd rather put a few new users off than lose the current users (especially our Super Members!).

I'm also going to have the capability to administrate the website at weekends which should help as well.

Apologies to everyone for the last batch of spam.

I wouldn't think people would be too put off by having to wait a short time as long as it is made clear in the info when you are joining that there will be a delay and the reasons for it. Lots of sites do that and it doesn't seen to put people off.

We've set it up now. We have to approve anyone who joins the forum from now onwards.
