Territorial Force

Postby Tilliduff » Wed Nov 05, 2008 3:16 am

I have found the registration papers for my grandfather, born in 1895, joining the Territorial Force in 1913. He was in the Sth. London (Howitzer) Branch. Presumably this was due to the impending war? I know that he fought at the Front, is it possible to tell from his Territorial registration what company he would have served in?

I haven't managed to find any other papers for him, it is a little difficult as his name was John Brown! [;)]

His father, also John Brown, was a quality inspector of armaments at Woolwich Arsenal, and on the outbreak of war was sent to the US to inspect armaments being sent to UK for the war effort.

I hope someone can shed some light on my grandfathers war for me! He would never talk about it, as so many others wouldn't.
