Uniform ID please!

Postby karen » Thu Sep 18, 2008 5:33 am

I am really struggling with this picture left to me by my father - the family were 2 generations Irish, but prior to this from England. Anyone any idea about the uniform or date? Thanks!

Hi Karen,

If no-one on this forum is able to help can I suggest you post a copy of the photograph on the Great War Forum [link=http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/]http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/[/link] as they have some very knowledgeable correspondents on uniforms.

Hi Karen,

Your photograph shows a serviceman from the first world war period who is dressed in the uniform of an airman. Dependant on the exact date he would have either been in the Royal Flying Corps or in the Royal Air Force.

Thanks - interesting that you say RAF or RFC, because my father (who was given this photo of his ancestor) was himself a fighter pilot in the RAF/USAF in WW2 - maybe this man was a role model for him - I will continue to investigate - thanks again!
