Help with uniforms please

Postby Tilliduff » Thu Sep 11, 2008 4:06 am

This is a photo of my great-uncle Sidney Brown presumably during WW1. Afterwards he joined the Black and Tans (but I think he was an honest and upright man, my fathers favourite uncle! So didn't conform to the mould of most of the Black and Tans!)

But can anybody intepret his uniform and that of the men with him please?

If you have a better image of his cap I might be able to make out what regiment he is in. This photo was probably taken late in the war the arrows on his right arm are wound stripes, if you look closely you should be able to make out how many he has. Also if you look closely does he have a medal ribbon or is that just a reflection. I would also take a guess that this might have been taken at an OTC.

There are definitely three stripes. I have blown up the picture to try a clearer view of the cap. I think there might be a medal there on the left.

Hi,

If no-one on this forum is able to help can I suggest you post a copy of the photograph on the Great War Forum [link=http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/]http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/[/link] as they have some very knowledgeable correspondents on uniforms.
