In the workhouse

Postby Maudie » Fri Sep 05, 2008 10:50 pm

This was the census in which I discovered my gt grandmother Louisa Geoghan (nee Paddison) and her children in the Stoke on Trent workhouse.

A few years later in 1885, the children (except for the eldest son) were sent to Canada and their surname changed to Gagan
My grandfather left Canada in 1900 but his sisters remained there

My gt grandmother also remarried Alfred Davis stating she was a widow, but her husband did not die until 1919, so she knowingly committed bigamy.
