WW1 Uniform

Postby Shazann67 » Sun Aug 17, 2008 7:06 pm

Hi

All I know about this photograph is that it is my Grandmother's brother, who emigrated to Australia due to his girlfriend marrying somebody else prior to his return from WWI.

Can anybody recognise the uniform so that I could possibly look up any military records?

Any help or assistance would be gratefully appreciated.

Could the bicycles in the background be important and indicate a messenger service ?

Hello there,

I can't quite make the cap badge out in the image, it may be Dorset Regiment or Essex Regiment. What was his name and do you know when he was born? I'll try and look him up for you if I can,

Hi Gareth

HENRY FARROW was born in the second quarter of 1898 (April/May/June), the exact date not known. He was born in Islington, London.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello again,

I've had a look and there were a few Henry Farrow's involved. Based on the cap badge the one I would go for from the medal index is:

H Farrow
1st Essex Regiment
20962

However, I'm no expert on these things. I would suggest posting on the Great War Forum where you will find people who are experts!

Hope I've been of help,

Gareth

Hi

The Cycles it turns out are quite relevant - I have it from another source that Henry Farrow was in fact with the Essex & Suffolk Bicycle Regiment.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble in assisting with this query.
