Newspaper Lookup

Postby Peter350 » Thu Apr 09, 2020 1:22 am

I would be grateful if someone could assist.

By way of introduction: I am researching over 50 military ancestors of my son (maternal and paternal sides) from late 18th century (to himself! / father / GFathers / Great Uncles). Needless to say, I have FMP and Ancestry (incl Fold3) subscriptions.

However, my FMP subscription does not include Newspapers and periodicals.

I have come across the following Result in FMP’s British Newspapers Collection:

The Chief Educational Institutions in Birmingham.
ROYAL SMALL ARMS ESTABLISHMENTS Bagot street, Birmingham, akd k.ath Birmingham Assist Superintendent of Small Arms H T Arbuthnot, Major RA. Clerks W Mavitta, W M Collins and J M G tenant, Esqrs. Foreman, Mr Eaton Smallhrath Assist

December 22, 1866 Aris’s Birmingham Gazette Birmingham Warwickshire Eng

December 22, 1866 - Aris's Birmingham Gazette - Birmingham, Warwickshire, Eng

Unfortunately, the December 22 issue is not included in the 19th Century British Library Newspapers (Gale) collection

….. notwithstanding it apparently is included in FMP’s.

Would someone be kind enough to lookup this article on FMP’s Newspapers Collection, please?

Thank you in anticipation.

it continues...

Assist Superintendent of Small Arms, T. P. Warlow, Esq - Head Viewer, Mr Oxford.

That's all......

It's included in a list of The Chief Educational Institutions in Birmingham.

Thank you for your prompt rely. Much appreciated.

Could I ask you to decipher some of the automatic text recognitions, please? (For example, I’ve converted “Baooot street” to Bagot street).

1. “akd k.ath” (immediately following “Baooot / Bagot street, Birmingham”)

2. Is “tenant,” in “J. M. G. tennant”, Tennant with a capital “T”?

3. I presume “Smallhrath” (immediately following Mr Eaton) is: Small Heath?

4. I’m confused by the dashes before and after “Foreman Mr Eaton”.
Is Mr Eaton at Birmingham or Small Heath?

Hi Peter - I have a FMP sub and have pulled up the newspaper blurb.

Affirmative for:

J. M. G. Tennant
Mr Eaton - SmallHeath
"and SmallHeath" (text immediately after Baggot Street, Birmingham)

If you PM me your email address, I'm happy to send you the actual newspaper image.
