George Murat from Heidelberg

Postby Whiteblade » Wed Apr 08, 2020 6:36 pm

I have George Murat in my tree. He was born in Rohrbach, Heidelberg in about 1820. He came to Sheffield around 1845 and was employed as a clockmaker. I am struggling to find anything of his origins in Germany. Can anyone help with German records from that period? Also, what was the situation there in the 1840s that might have prompted him to emigrate?

Thanks, Whiteblade

You don't say which family history websites you have access to, so this link should help:

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Ba ... ch_Records

Also, George's marriage record (if online) should indicate his father's name and occupation. That should help you confirm a likely c1820 baptism record, should you find it.

A search of the Internet says there was economic depression and later revolution.
