Where was John Sturgess in 1841 Census?

Postby Mick Loney » Sun Apr 05, 2020 11:07 am

John Sturgess was born on Weldon, Northants in 1758. He died and was buried in Weldon 24 October 1842. Burial entry says he was 84, which is correct age (although GRO entry says he was 64!)

So, he was still alive in 1841, and I assume living in Weldon, but I can't find him.

In fact I can't even find any entries for Weldon, so am unable to browse the sheets! Any idea what sheet numbers the village is in? (It is Oundle RD).

Any help appreciated

Mick - there are missing 1841 census records for Weldon and Great Weldon (as per FMP).

Many thanks. I couldn’t understand why they weren’t selectable under ‘Northamptonshire’ towns - now I know

This is an interesting link: Northamptonshire Militia lists 1777. It includes names and occupations of persons liable to serve as militia men, broken down by parish, including Weldon. There are two Sturges chaps mentioned, one from Corby and the other from Weekley.
