George King

Postby SDV » Wed Apr 01, 2020 1:08 pm

George was born in Islington in Q3 1870, to John and Mary Ann KING. In the 1871 census, he was living aged 9m with his parents at Reform Street, Islington (RG10 298 87 45).

I can find no record of him after that date. He is not with his parents in 1881, who are living in Tottenham (RG11 1384 119 20). I can't find him on the 1881 census, for can I find an appropriate death.

Any insights welcome.

In 1881, at 123 Offord Road, Islington, in the household of George Henderson, a baker born Scotland, there's a George King, male, aged 13, born Islington, described as 'servant' and 'baker.'
I wonder if he was actually an apprentice to Mr Henderson, which, if he's your George, would explain why he isn't with his parents.

Could well be. Thanks.

I suppose the next steps are (a) look for him in 1891, and (b) search for a marriage with an appropriate father.

Hi, this is a similar thing with one of my third great grandfathers, it took me an absolute age to find him in the 1841 census and he was an apprentice baker, which became his lifelong occupation.

Having looked at the 1881C return, I am more inclined to think that this is not my man. I think it is more likely to be George William King, who was born in Islington to a different family two years earlier than my man.
