What happened to William Dingle?

Postby Kesaunders79 » Sat Mar 14, 2020 3:32 pm

I'd love some help in finding out where one of my ancestors disappeared to if anyone fancies a challenge, it's stumped me for years.

William Dingle was born 1809 in Talland, Cornwall. I have him on every census up to 1891 when he's an 81 year old living with his daughter in Menheniot, Cornwall. Then the trail goes cold, I can't find a suitable death or burial for him. There are a few others by the same name of similar age who died around that time but I have ruled these out having found they belong to other families. I've also ordered some death certificates for them too to check and found no Will. Some Grandchildren started emigrating around that time to Australia and Canada but I've not had luck finding anything. Would an 81 year old man really want to emigrate?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I appreciate the age is approx 8 years out but have you checked out the following?

Dingle, William 87 o-d 1904 Liskeard 5c 29.

Menheniot is part of the Liskeard Reg Dist.

When people reached such a good age they could be very iffy about a birth year!

He's not got a grand daughter that married an Isaac Foot MP has he? There's mention of one dying in 1904 around Callington, near Liskeard.

Another that died locally in 1891 was a Draper.

Thanks but this one left a Will and is a different person going by that unfortunately.

Hi yes I think this must be him, wonder if the original record would tell me anything more than the transcript does.

Please could you help us with a few more details please?
Wife’s name
When and where they married
Children’s name and who they married
This will help us follow the correct line and eliminate the wrong William Dingle
Thanks
