Stevenson, Butt Lane, Talke.

Hello all,

I am looking in to some WW2 medals to the Royal Artillery that I have that are still in their box.

I am drawing blank on all of my searches for the person so far.

The address is "Mr (a), (G), (or Q) Stevenson, 11 Brindley Close, Butt Lane Talke, Staffordshire"

I am assuming the medals would have been sent late 40's.

I am hoping someone may be able to help find a possible candidate for my man?

I have found various Stevenson family members in the area from the late 1870's and on the 1939 register but none with the possible initial that would fit.

Does anyone know if electoral rolls are online for this area for after the war?

Or any suggestions really?

Cheers

Dan

My late father in law didnot apply for his medals!

What forenames are we looking for?

I don't think the electoral rolls (which restarted in 1945) are online and although in Staffordshire they are split between various areas. I suppose you could ask the local archive that covers Newcastle-under-Lyne (see GENUKI for Staffordshire) in which Talke comes under if they could check for the address, there may be a charge. Strange that there is nothing on ancestry for censuses after 1891 for Talke.

Thanks Junkers, I will give them a shout and see what can be found, I know this search is a bit of a long shot.

Elsabels, I am not sure of the forename, the initial is either an a, g or Q. I can't really make it out from the writing on the box.

Cheers

Ancestry has phone directories online for some periods and some areas (ie, I don't know which!) Ordinary people didn't tend to have phones until later but he might not have moved for years.

Hi Adrian,

Cheers for the suggestion. I had thought of those and started looking but no joy yet! I'll keep digging.

Cheers
