Awarded MBE?

Postby Rosemary Collins » Mon Feb 03, 2020 3:33 pm

Hello lovely WDYTYA? readers!

I'm currently trying to find out more about Herbert Mends Gibson (1869-1945), who was Chief Superintendent of the Manchester Ship Canal Company. Just by Googling his name I found this page from The Gazette (https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/iss ... 1/data.pdf). It's dated 7 June 1918, which was Herbert's birthday, so I presume it's a list of notable people who were born on that date. It says Herbert is an MBE. However, I haven't found any other trace of him being an MBE - not in The Gazette's other records, and it's not mentioned in the articles about his death, or in the 1939 Register. Is there any other way I can prove or disprove that he was awarded an MBE?

Thank you for any help you can give!

In the New Year Honours (MBE) for 1918, there is this entry under "Civil Division":

Herbert Mends Gibson, Chairman of Transport Committee, East Lancashire, British Red Cross Society

Hi Mo,

That sounds like the one! Sorry if this is an obvious question, but do you know where I can look up this list?

Thanks,

Rosemary
