Help finding a birth index

Postby kelly85 » Thu Jan 16, 2020 10:31 am

Trying to find the birth index to order the certificate if anybody could help please?
Trying to find the details of Ada Hunsley born about 1866 in Nottingham. I have located Ada with her mother Martha Hunsley was Ginever in the 1881 census but am struggling with any other records. This family is extremely complicated. I believe Ada’s father to be Edward Hunsley born 1831 Lincoln.

Thanks in advance

There is an Ada Ginnever born 1864 in RADFORD (Nr Nottingham), with Mother's maiden name as Buttery.

Possibility 1

Perhaps you are looking for a marriage Martha Buttery to Ginnever and then a subsequent marriage Ginnever to Hunsley.

Possibility 2

Despite the quoted maiden name could Ada be illegitimate. She was born 1866 (or 1864) and thereis a marriage of Ginnever/Hunsley for 1871

I will take a look thank you, A different name or maiden name could be used as Edward Hunsley was still married to his first wife at the time of birth. Edward & Martha didn’t marry till a few years later.

There is a tree on ancestry that has an image of this Ada Ginnever's birth certificate.

dob 1st Feb 1864 f- George Ginnever - Whitesmith m-Sarah Ginnever, formerly Buttery of Byron St, Menton. (transcribed as Sneinton)

The tree does associate her with your Ada Hunsley, with her mother being Martha Elizabeth Hunsley, without explaining how.

She is baptised as such on 28th Feb http://www.freereg.org.uk/search_record ... 8f056c022e

Might be worth seeing what happened to George/Sarah. Did Ada come to be with your Martha by adoption on the demise of George and Sarah

UPDATE!! Thank you for the help. Ada Ginnever was the daughter of Martha’s brother.
Just struggling to find the marriage of Sarah Buttery & George Ginnever. I believe George went on to re marry in Liverpool around a year after Ada’s birth. Any help with the marriage of George & Sarah would be a help.

So you think George left Ada behind and she was (informally?) adopted by Martha and then went onto to be accepted by Hunsley?

I have spoken to a direct relative of Ada Ginnever and she thinks the 1881 census where Ada is listed as Martha’s daughter is an error. She said her Father was brought up around Ada and she asked if he knew Martha or if she was spoken about and she wasn’t.
It seems Ada was born, her mum died and George moved to Liverpool where he married and went on to have another daughter.
In 1871 Ada is a visitor with the Hancock family (no connection to Martha).
I just can’t seem to find the marriage of George and Sarah

It is possibly a mistake on the 1881 census, where she is shown as Martha's daughter, but also with the name Hunsley - She does seem to marry as Ada Ginnever.

We can postulate that she was living with Martha (however briefly) and the enumerator made a simple mistake of assuming that Ada was the daughter with the same name

The birth of Martha's daughter Florence Elizabeth (DQ 1872 Shardlow 7b 390) is listed on the GRO index with mother's maiden name Ginneven.
