Missing Relative

Postby kelly85 » Tue Dec 31, 2019 6:31 pm

Hello, I am new to this site but I have hit a brick wall and am looking for some help/advice.
I am trying to trace my 2nd great Aunt May Eliza Bates 18/5/1902 Smallbourgh, Norfolk. I have her birth record and I have located her in the 1911 census but nothing at all after.... Its like she has just vanished.
Her parents were Audrey Slaughter 1875 Walsingham, Norfolk and John Bates 1865 Norfolk. She had a Brother and a Sister, her Sister Daisy Maud Bates left for Australia in 1929 on her own (still unsure as to why she did this as she never returned to the UK). I have all the information on all her family and all the information on her Sister however, there are no leads on May. There are no records that I can find to say she left the country, married over here or died. Any help or advice would be appreciated so much.

Thanks in advance...... Kelly

Hi Kelly,

I have just found a family tree of John and Audrey on ancestry, there is some great detail about what went on to have made Daisy move away so far, never to return.
May actually married at around the age of 38 to an Alfred C Hudson in North Walsham, ca. 1941.

I'm more than happy to give you all the details that I have found about the family, but because it's personal, I would rather send you a message about it, unless you would rather me do otherwise.

Alex.

Thank you for taking the time to look but I believe the tree is mine on ancestry.

The Alfred Hudson marriage is not the right marriage for May Eliza I bought the marriage certificate.

It is honestly like she disappears into thin air

Something to investigate, perhaps
Marriage
Dec 1931 Stoke Newington 1b 713
Bates, May E. - spouse Lawrence
Lawrence, William - spouse Bates

Possibility of two sons born in Hackney?

May Lawrence in Grosvenor Road, Islington in 1939, with William Lawrence on the electoral register.
The 39 Register has her birth date as 18 May 1900
Is husband called Wilfred on that?

One possible death might be
Dec 1974 Braintree 9 1298
Lawrence, May Eliza
d-o-b 18 May 1902

On that husband, well there is a Wilfred Lawrence who died in Finsbury in 1958 age 66. Probate for him, an administration granted to May Eliza Lawrence, widow

Thank you

I will look into this, Daisy went to Australia in 1928 and her last known address was Finchley. She sailed from London so maybe a link.
