RMS Carpathia

Postby Jethro Tull » Tue Dec 31, 2019 5:46 pm

Hello all,

I am researching a chap by the name of Edward Wortley Le Butt, I have been quite fortunate and found quite a lot of info about him.

I know he served in the merchant navy at some point during WW1 and was on the RMS Carpathia in early 1917.

I am trying to establish if there are any crew lists for Cunard available to show what other ships he was on and for how long, or if any lists of the survivors when she was sunk in 1918 are extant. I have ancestry and do not think there is anything available on there.

Cheers

Dan

There are numerous ships' crews lists on The National Archives (TNA) catalogue (look under Carpathia) but they do not have online lists on the catalogue. His service in the RAF might list the ships he was on and the Merchant Navy records should help but I can't find any reference to him specifically. So I think TNA is your next stop.

Thanks for that Junkers, I have his RAF records and there is no mention of the navy at all.

I think my only option will be a visit in person to the archives at some point, I was hoping for online records for ease really.

Cheers

Dan

Hi MoVidger,

Thanks for that, I'm pretty certain that is my chap. He was only a lad while serving in the navy.

If you could email it over that would be ace.

I think you may have my email from previous help.

Cheers

Dan

Dan, send me a PM with your email address. I had a look for the earlier email when I sent you a document earlier this year, but I may have "culled" some old emails. Thanks!

Thanks for these Mo, I hadn't previously found the ones on Family Search.

Glad I can start building more detail to his service at sea.

Interesting to find him in New Zealand and Australia, up until now I only had him in the Atlantic.

Now to find the detail for the Carpathia! Just want to know if he was still on her when she was sunk.

Cheers

Dan
