Surname mysteries

Postby Will Mundy » Sat Nov 30, 2019 10:36 am

Hello I’m trying to trace two of my ancestors Martha Gallimon born about 1723 in Oxfordshire and married William Brookes in Bampton in 1748. Alsoa Susan Swackley born in the 1720s or 30s based on her marriage in 1754 in Ambrosden, Oxfordshire. I can’t find instances of either surname anywhere to suggest where they might have come from, any ideas on how to go about finding either family?

Susan Swackley to John Barret-The couples marriage is listed in the parish register for Ambrosden as living in Blackthorn. This is a village near Ambrosden that did not have its own Parish church. There are two births with their names in the Baptisms, listed after their marriage. Thomas Barret baptised 30th November 1754, and John Barret baptised 19th September 1756. Hope these details help with your search.

Thanks for getting all that information for me, it will be helpful in narrowing down the possibilities. According to Martha’s death transcript the base born Martha is the best fit, just got to find a parent for her.
