Family Tree Maker 2019

Postby Norfolk Nan » Thu Nov 21, 2019 2:06 pm

Has anyone updated from FTM 2017 to FTM 2019? Is it worthwhile?

I keep telling myself it's OK to stick with what I have but I don't want to find myself with unsupportable software at some not-too-distant time. Are there any wonderful changes that make it a must-have or shall I save my money and wait a while?

Hi Norfolk Nan, not sure if you do Facebook but there is a very good Group that is always active and lots of help from not only users but from the support team of Makiev. Highly recommended from me.

OK. I think that the general consensus is that if you use FTM and sync with Ancestry then the upgrade is worth doing. There are those that don't sync and they seem to feel that the additional "stuff" doesn't warrant it. There was a bit of a hiccup with Ancestry when FTM 2019 first came out but it has been sorted now, hence the earlier Amber status on syncing. (Now sorted).
My personal view is that 2019 is worth it.
Hope that helps

It does, thank you. I did sync but had a few problems so stopped. I’m a simple soul and tech isn’t my forte. Can I ask what you like about 2019 that’s new?

Personally it loads much quicker, there is the new toy of Tree Vault although it only accepts 1 tree ( I have 3 that I work on) When I spoke with the support team they did have the option of more than 1 tree in the "work in progress " pile. It looks and feels identical to 2017 . Also a turn back time facility.
There was a good write up on the blog on 23 October if you can access that
