Walter RIDDLE was born c1829 in Chiddingfold, Surrey, the son of William and Harriet RIDDLE. He was baptised in Chiddingfold on 12 July 1829.

In 1841, he was living with his parents aged 12 in Chiddingfold. In 1851, he was a lodger aged 21 with the PAGE family in Chiddingfold, working as an agricultural labourer. He then disappears from the record.

At one time I thought I had found him, when I found a record for another Walter Riddle who joined the Grenadier Guards in 1855. This particular fellow it turns out was born in Shere, Surrey in Nov 1836 to Richard and Elizabeth RIDDLE. In 1841 and 1851, he was living in Shere with his parents, aged 4 and 14. He appears in the 1861 and 1871 army lists, before being discharged in 1876. He subsequently turns up in 1891 as a Chelsea Pensioner int he Royal Hospital, where his marital status is recorded as single. I believe he died in Chelsea in 1903.

I notice on that Walter Riddell (sic) was baptised at St. Mary.
May be worth writing to the church & diocese to ask if their archives have any further information.
