Ann HAWLEY

Postby SDV » Sun Nov 17, 2019 12:51 pm

Ann HAWLEY (née GETTLIFFE) died on 02 Mar 1900 in Church Street, Ashbourne, Derbyshire.

She was the widow of John HAWLEY (1821-1864), a coach trimmer.

Despite searching the obvious databases, I cannot find a burial for Ann. I suspect it is due to a transcription error. It has been proved many times in the past, that people on this site are far more skilled than I in tracing such errors.

Can anyone find a suitable burial?

According to Family Search, FMP hold the Derbyshire Deaths and Burials set, but it is incomplete. I did a few "test" searches and it appears FMP have Ashbourne burial records up to 1882 only, at the moment. I did find Ann in the Derbyshire Registrars Death Index (on FMP). No burial details given, but the index does offer "Register Office 390".

There's a brief mention for Ann in the Deaths section of the Derbyshire Advertiser and Journal, 10 March 1900, but it gives no burial information.

Templ4r - many thanks, but where exactly on Ancestry? I searched on Ancestry before posting and have searched again after your post, but still can't find the record.

OK - I've found it, but only by browsing the image set. A straight forward search of "All records" or "Derbyshire burials" does not seem to come up with the record.

Go to Card Catalogue, search Derbyshire and it comes up Burials 1813 to 1991 at the top. Click on it and then St Oswalds from the Browse list, then the year.

A lot of records on Ancestry are scanned, but not indexed, so a search won't find anything.

You have to go to the Card Catalogue to find the relevent "book" you want to look through, then look through the pages.
