Midwinter mystery

Postby Will Mundy » Sat Nov 16, 2019 5:08 pm

Hello,

I’m trying to trace one of my ancestors Mary Midwinter she married James Shorter in Oxford in 1798. She died in Horspath in 1861 and in the census records she says she is from Stowe in Gloucestershire born sometime in the 1770s. I can’t find any record of her in Stowe so I think maybe she worked there or had some connection to it, I can find no evidence of her marrying before James either. Any ideas on where she was from?

I would stick with Stow-On-The-Wold but I can't see a baptism entry on ancestry. I would suggest you check with Gloucestershire Archives to see if they have the record, of course she may not have been baptised. I would also suggest you check if there are any records of a Midwinter family in Stow-on-The-Wold at the time.
