1880 Army Horse Transport

Postby Norfolk Nan » Fri Nov 08, 2019 10:26 am

I have a Londoner who said he spent six years during the 1880s in the 'army horse transport' - was that like saying he was in the catering corp (ie every regiment had one) or is it a specific regiment? Forgive my ignorance but knowing would help me a lot.

Thank you.

According to Wikipedia in 1880 there was a Corps called the Commissariat and Transport Corps which in 1888 was amalgamated into the Army Service Corps. By analogy with later periods I would expect him to be part of those Corps.
