Type of Photo and Date

Postby Lusby84 » Tue Oct 22, 2019 7:18 pm

I inherited this recently from a family member.
I have no idea who they are, only an assumption as to which branch they came from. All I am hoping to establish is what type of photo this is and a rough age based on fashion/photo style.

Its printed on glass (which came as seen in photo, I do not have the missing piece). Could it be a couple on their wedding day?

Could the lady in the second image be the same lady/relative???

Thanks in advance

As you say the photo of the couple is on glass, it's probably an ambrotype (each photo was unique and could not be duplicated — much like using a Polaroid camera). Height of popularity for ambrotypes was 1853 to mid-1860s.

The woman (with neck bow) in the smaller photo probably dates from that era, as well. She has a look of the woman in the ambrotype. It could be her or a relative.
