Preston , November Quarter sessions 1872.

and that will match the Earle leaving the army in April 1872. So we are probably looking at the same man.

That's a good find.
I guess that the timeline suggested that they might be the same man, having two invisible Earle (or Erle) Gowers in Kent before the army man surfaces seems slightly implausible.

I am taking that the WO 23 pension record, when it says 2 years to 22.4.74, means that is the length of time Earle will receive his pension. But what is the district? And no change noted for that district in '73 or '74 (it doesn't say Leeds!)

That idea is out of the window for 1901. I've found the abstracts on findmypast. 36 pages in that enumeration district.

I haven't got it either - not at home. Nor can I do much with the image I have saved. I can post the relevant half, possibly is not going to be great!

That's fine thank you. I'll enhance it and see what appears.

last part looks like 1/8 so a date.

I'd say he only collected the pension in august 1872 then didn't bother.

I have the 4 pages for his discharge if you want them posting for any hints.

Hi
I did manage to get hold of his army papers. Yes, Sundridge on there for place if birth.
Didn't collect his pension, I hadn't thought of that. Crikey!

There are Gowers in Sundridge in 1851. a child, John, is in the workhouse and 2 families. There is another family in Sevenoaks.
The pension for 2 ruptures seems to be 8 pence a day..... why just 2 years?? Maybe the 2 in front is 2 years money paid... probably need an Army expert to tell us that.
my ancestor lost an arm at Fuengirola and got 9 pence a day.

If it helps (or hinders), Sundridge is a village about 4 miles from Sevenoaks, Sundridge Park is a district just north of Bromley town centre

Certainly explains both places given as where he was born.
