Marriage c1804

Postby katebenn » Fri Oct 04, 2019 2:23 pm

I'm trying to trace the marriage of Thomas Hibbard; also sometimes spelt Hibberd or Hibbert to an Elizabeth (Betty) who was born c1781 probably in Wiltshire; marrying approx in 1804 possibly in Corsham, Wiltshire.
Their 1st son David was born 26 Feb 1806 in Corsham.
Any ideas please!

Only Hibberd that married at Corsham before 1806 is William to a Betty Glover 4 sept 1798.

Looks like you need to look elsewhere unless he is William Thomas or Vicar put the wrong name.

Wiltshire Online Parish Clerks have transcripts of St Bartholomews Parish Registers, including Marriages 1800-1837, which don't show a marriage for a Thomas Hibbard (or variants). But there were several other churches/chapels in Corsham, with records at Wiltshire Record Office; did Thomas and Elizabeth marry in one of them? Have you tried contacting Wiltshire Family History Society?

Is he the Thomas Hibberd who owns land or the Ag Lab? There seems to be 2 in Corsham of a similar age. The ag lab seems to have remarried in 1821 to a Sarah.

Hi
There is a Will for Thomas Hibberd of Corsham Wilts 1855 of WestWells
It mentions Thomas Hibberd junior of Waddon ,daughters Elizabeth Harvey wife of William Harvey of Westwells and Ann Abbot wife of John of Warminster
If Thomas and Elizabeth died without issue their share of the property go to his grandchildren Thomas and Elizabeth (Flower) children of his late son David. And if those grandchildren should die then to their brothers John and Joseph Hibberd.
Made 1.6.1853
There are 4 houses rented out at Westward Green hill and Moore and 7 at Westwells.
There and the rest of the property are given to Thomas junior and his sisters equally after expenses and a few bequests.
It does seem a lot of money.

Grandson's Joseph's the following year 1856 carpenter
He owns a house occupied by Jacob Franklin and a shop by William Harvey and estate inherited from late grandfather Thomas Hibberd and he gives it to his wife Sarah for life and then in trust to son Henry William Simms Hibberd and other children age age 21.If son dies to brother Thomas Hibberd and provison for wife and children.

There is also a Will for Mary wife of James in 1742.She names most of her relatives and her husband must still be alive as she leaves something to him as well.

Poll list 1832 Thomas Hibbered owner and occupier of Westwells worth a rent of £50 a year.
1819 admittance to land recently enclosed to Thomas Hibberd of Westwells in Manor of Corsham at Moore Green Common..
Graveyard plots at Corsham (all together 5018 and 5019
Thomas Hibberd 21.9.1857 age 39
David and sons John and Joseph 23.4.1849 age 42,23.4.1865 age 26 and 17.7.1856 age 26

I've downloaded the will and the tithe map and page, but they are too big to attach on here.

I can send you them if you e mail me.

is the Elizabeth buried 1823 his wife?
I've looked at the Banns to see if they crop up but nothing.
1851 says he was born at Corsham, so it looks like shes from another parish or county and they married there.

It can be difficult to find a marriage. I've been looking for one around Croxall ( Derbyshire) and Edingales as I couldn't find the wifes maiden name and his name was also spelled differently over the years. I went to the church and they were buried with her parents, so i got her name off the gravestone, then found they married at St Clement Danes, London.
