Records for Italy?

Postby wecanbeheroes » Thu Sep 26, 2019 2:58 pm

Hello,

I'm trying to find resources where I can search records relating to Luisa Teresa Tognetti, who was born in Italy in 1908. I have an Ancestry worldwide subscription but have found nothing so far apart from UK records. Luisa married a British soldier Cecil Young in Manchester, Oct 5 1946, after they met in Italy, when he saved her from a very dangerous situation, during WW2.

I would really appreciate any help in finding where I can search, to find out more about her life in Italy. Just her birth entry would be a good starting point.

Thanks so much :)

I've found this Italian document on Ancestry, which I think relates to Luisa's Father Cesare. How would I get it translated?

I get 3 Cesare documents come up, 2 from 1891 and 1 from 1872.

1872 looks like a birth register and mentions a Ruben

1891 looks like a death entry.

2 don't look like the ones you posted.

Thanks Templ4r, I'm pretty sure all 3 documents relate to Cesare as the record set shows a title page at the start of each individual's entry. 1872 would fit the timeline for the possible birth of Cesare, and Ruben could be his Father. Thanks for your help :)

Have you tried Family Search for this family? FS is the largest source of online records for Italian genealogical research. Italian records are kept at the local level, so knowing the person's town of birth is necessary for locating ancestors prior to their immigration.

Thanks MoVidger. No, I haven't tried family search yet. I will certainly have a look though. The big problem of course is the language barrier!

Not sure if it would be any help, but there was a chap living in Italy on rootsweb a while ago who would do lookups etc. I was trying to find a death certificate for a friend’s father who died in Italy which she needed to get his MOD records, and he came up trumps. I’ll check when I get home and see if I can find any more information
