I think this photograph is of my 2 x g grandfather James Cripps 1843-1905.

Does his style of dress suggest am Edwardian man in his later life. Could this be to commemorate his 60th birthday in 1903?

Any thoughts are very much appreciated.

I did a quick search on the photographers studio and I am afraid it was not good news.

The first picture on this page
https://www.photohistory-sussex.co.uk/F ... Photos.htm

"A studio portrait of a young woman wearing traditional Scottish costume, photographed at one of the branch studios of Van Trolga (c1912). Ernest Van Trolga operated photographic studios in Brighton between 1910 and 1915. Van Trolga had branch studios in London at Clapham Junction and Putney and in Southampton."

As your picture includes a reference to the Brighton studio, that gives an earliest date of 1910. To be pedantic, we can say the picture was framed 1910-1915 but the picture may have been taken years previously.

Ah, that is a shame. I think he will remain a mystery then. Thanks very much for your help.
