Regiment & service re ords

Postby fhb » Thu Aug 08, 2019 1:32 am

I'm looking for military details of the uncle of cousin. He was called James Thompson b 1921 d 1985 and had Service no. 14626578. That's all my cousin knows. Does anyone know how I can determine in which Regiment Jim served? With the Regiment I may be able to obtain his service record.
Thank
Francis

See the FIBIS Fibiwiki page British Army, section "Army personnel serving after January 1921", for details of how to request his records from the Ministry of Defence, but there are restrictions about who can apply.

To apply for a service record go to http://www.gov.uk and look for the appropriate link. You will find all the advice you need there and the application forms which can be printed for your use. I have found the process very simple to use.
