Probate records price cut

Postby Rosemary Collins » Wed Jul 31, 2019 1:47 pm

Hello everyone,

As you might have seen, the government has just cut the price of probate records from £10 to £1.50 (http://www.whodoyouthinkyouaremagazine. ... -12-months). I'm writing an article about this for the magazine and I'd be really grateful for your help! Have you taken advantage of the price cuts to order any probate records, or are you going to? Have you got any brick walls they can help with? I'd love to hear your stories!

Hello Rosemary,

I've just ordered 4 wills at the lower price: 2 from one set of grandparents and 2 from a great-great-uncle and his sister.

I'll let you know if I find out anything exciting. I have learnt loads from obtaining wills before though, so if you'd like anything about that, please let me know.

Best wishes,

Katherine

I have actually sent for 12 wills (got a bit carried away), six of them from my family and six from my husband's. There is one which I hope might help me to work out which of two men with the same name is my ancestor, but most of them I have just sent for out of curiosity as I have found some really interesting info from other wills in the past.
