An Irish Problem

Postby nuttree » Sat Jul 27, 2019 12:08 pm

In 1911 Ann Armstrong was born in 1841 in Kerchine, Sligo, Ireland (all the other censuses just have IRELAND)
Ann Flinn married Patrick ARMSTRONG in Teesdale District, Co. Durham in 1863
1871 with 49 yr old Ann Armstrong is:
Bridget RIMMER Boarder W 57 Charwoman Ireland
In 1881 two of Ann's children are with their grandmother Bridget Rimmer born 1821 Ireland
So it looks like Ann Flinn was daughter of Bridget Rimmer
1851 in Barnard Castle there is Bridget FLINN born 1821 Ireland with a daughter Ann age 7 and a brother Patrick Ighland born 1838
but other censuses Ann was born nearer 1841 would a parent get it wrong and say the child was 7 rather than 10?
Bridget Flinn married James Rimmer in 1862 in Teesdale district He died in 1865 aged 48
So I am now looking for a marriage in Ireland between 1835 and 1850 possibly SLIGO for :
Bridget IGHLAND and ?Flinn
and a birth for Ann Flinn 1841-1845
i HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP

Irish records are notoriously sparse, but there's this entry on ancestry:
Anne Flynn b 9/5/1841, Castleconnor, Sligo, Ireland
Father Ned Flynn, mother Bridget O'Brien

Durham Registrars have indexed the marriage as follows:
Name: FLINN, Bridget
Year: 1862
Other index entries for this marriage:
RIMMER, James
HILAND, Bridget

There is a Catholic marriage 24 Jun 1838, Castlemore and Kilcolman, between Brigida Hiland & Daniel Flynn: https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls ... 6/mode/1up

There is a baptism at Barnard Castle on 31 Jan 1848 for a Peter Flynn s/o Daniel Flynn & Bridget Hiland, although it seems he died the following year:

A Daniel Flinn was buried at Barnard Castle 11 Mar 1848, and Peter Flynn was buried 13 Jan 1849

EDIT: Both burials were as FLINN, although Peter's death was registered as Flynn:

FLINN, PETER mmn HILAND
GRO Reference: 1848 M Quarter in TEESDALE UNION Volume 24 Page 327

FLYNN, PETER aged 1

The earliest baptisms available for Castlemore and Kilcolman seem to be 1851, which could explain why Ann cant be found.

Death Notice from Durham Chronicle 17 March 1848
At Marwood, near Barnardcastle (sic), 10th inst, aged 32, Mr Daniel Flynn
