WW1 Soldier Uniform Identification

Postby Jayne8471 » Thu Jul 11, 2019 8:11 pm

I am trying to identify the soldier in this photograph found amongst my grandmother's belongings and wonder if anyone can help identify the uniform or anything about the photograph in general, i.e. building, location, date, etc. Thank you.

Looks like a foreign uniform to me. There seems to be a two coloured cloth badge on his hat, could it be red/white for a polish soldier. Just guessing :)

I am puzzled. The fore and aft cap - with a flash apparently? The high gaiters or puttees? These do not seem typically British Army.... (Note that I said "typically"!!!)

Maybe you need to try a specialist military site such as the one on Rootschat.

Even the buttons don't seem to fit in.....
