Ah, as soon as I saw the house name I wondered about Australia... The waratah flower is the state emblem of New South Wales (and a suburb of Newcastle NSW). Well done in tracking them down abroad, it's not always easy.

Thanks for that follow-up. The village may well have been pronounced like "Packenham" at one time. It was the family name of Lord Longford, and they pronounced it like that.

It's likely that "your" William HENSBY was closely related to the Mildenhall HENSBY's anyway - most probably how Annie met him in the first place, I should think.
