Deciphering 1911 Census occupation

Postby jkath » Wed Jun 05, 2019 10:25 am

Hi
I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me my relatives occupation that's listed in the Paisley Scotland 1911 Census row 12, he was 31 years old. I can read my other relatives occupation in row 13 of Engineers Labourer.
Thank you

Dyer's Labourer - i.e. working for someone who dyed stuff. (I think the original was over-written).

Also.... The code number is listed here as 883. I managed to find the 1911 Census Occupation codes on FindMyPast https://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/expert-1911-occupation-codes and there they have
883 Textile Dyers

I've no idea if that's behind their pay-wall, so an alternative is the HistPop site, which has an immense amount of useful stuff but you do have to work at it:
http://www.histpop.org/ohpr/servlet/PageBrowser?path=Browse/TNA%20Census%20-%20Other%20(by%20date)&active=yes&mno=3190&tocstate=expandnew&tocseq=1500&display=sections&display=tables&display=pagetitles&pageseq=first-nonblank&zoom=5
This has 14 pages of images of the original tables but I'm not sure how they're supposed to work - or even if it's the full story...
