What is Samuel's occupation on the 1884 marriage certificate? Also, is an occupation indicated for Sarah Ann, as well?

Welcome to the Forum!

I think you may have to look at two possibilities.
1. That Sarah Ann's Mother remarried and her second husband was Samuel Elliott
2. That Sarah was illegitimate and her Mother married Samuel Elliott after her birth and she took (edited) his surname.

There isn't a birth registration for a Sarah Ann(e) Elliott in the GRO searching in the Congleton area in 1860 +/- 2 yrs.

Mo has suggested you supply the occupation of Samueland Sarah Ann. With that info we may be able to find them in the 1881 census

In addition if you could also supply the addresses that William and Sarah gave on their marr.cert.; the names of their witnesses at their marriage, where they married and where William was in 1881. Thank you

As Sally requested, can you provide us with any addresses on the marriage certificate, along with witness names, etc. Father's occupation (labourer) won't help to find the family in census records.

Because the certificate scanned sideways, can you confirm Sarah Ann's address. Is it 100 Penny Street?

Mo I checked 100 Penny St on FMP and it didn't yield Saran Ann or any other Elliots. 100-101 was a Wine and Spirits Store
