India death certificates information , GRO ?

Postby Simon45 » Fri May 24, 2019 10:13 am

Does anyone know where I can find and buy a death certificate for an ancestor who died in Lahore , India in 1894

He was a Staff Sergeant in the Royal Artillery

Would the GRO in England have them or The National Archives ..?

Thank you

You can find his death registration in British Armed Forces and Overseas deaths on findmypast:

Richard Wrenn Armed Forces 1894 Fort Lahore , Pakistan page 106 line 227.

The certificate can be ordered from GRO in the usual way - there is guidance on filling in the order form on the website.

Looking at the burial, it has the date and cause of death - unlike the usual English burial. I'm uncertain how much more information there will be on the death certificate. Something to bear in mind depending on how comprehensive a collection you want.
