Portman on 1939 Register

Postby Tobina » Mon May 06, 2019 1:43 pm

Hi, I am trying to find Francis (Frank) Portman b. 18/02/1912 in St Helens Lancashire,on the 1939 Register. In 1941 when he enlisted his address was 65,Chadwick Road, St Helens where he was living with his uncle & aunt the Jacksons.
I have checked on Ancestry & findmypast but with no results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

65 Chadwick Road (the Jackson family) on the 1939 Register includes two redacted entries.
It appears a correction has been made to Josiah Jackson's DoB; and Joseph Jackson's birth year appears to be 1908 (but transcribed as 1928). Is it possible that one of the two redacted lines is Francis/Frank, with an incorrect birth year, causing the redaction?

As Mo says, one of the two entries 'officially closed' could be for Frank. You can ask for the record to be opened by providing proof (death certificate) that the person has died, to ancestry or findmypast.

Really not sure if Ancestry will do the opening business?? Fine if they do but my understanding is that they are a bit further removed from the 1939 than FMP so either they don't do it or they just pass the stuff on to FMP. Happy to be corrected as I'm just working from memory here.

Good point. FMP do it; I shouldn't have assumed ancestry would.

Thanks for the replies. I sent the death certificate to findmypast & neither of the 2 lines were Frank.
I wondered if he was in the army reserves somewhere but I haven’t found any evidence & I have his army papers.
