I would still ring before you go.
Winchester Prison records are supposedly held at the office but I cannot find which format they are held in, so they may have to be retrieved from storage, which takes time
The staff are very helpful and will advise over the phone.
It's a walk in in record office so you do not have to prebook reading machines etc.

I suggest that you contact the record office as you will need a readers' ticket and appropriate identity documents and the record you want may be amongst other records the are subject to longer closure periods and may not even be preserved.

Thanks Junkers I forgot to mention the readers ticket, although having said that mine expired years ago, and I didn't have it with me when I popped into Winchester RO 6 weeks ago. Because of the change over to the new system they just issued me with a day pass!

I phoned them up yesterday and they are going to see what they can find, if anything!
Hopefully I will know this afternoon if there is anything available to look at.
