Details of a marriage in 1835 in Cheshire?

Sat Apr 20, 2019 10:02 am

I’m new to family history but am quite pleased to have traced back to my great great grandfather whom, according to their son’s Glasgow birth register, married my great great grandmother in Lancashire 1854.

My gt gt gfather was Henry Brabson from Lancashire. I think I see him in a prison/court record in 1841 in Salford, and possibly in the 1841 survey in Salford (Ancoats). Salford tallies with his job as a power loom tenter. In 1841, there is a Henry Brabson living with Sarah Brabson and Mary Brabson who I think may be his (first?) wife and daughter respectively. (If this is the right man, he may have married again later as his son’s birth register shows he married Janet Campbell in Lancashire in 1854, although I can’t find a record of that marriage)

I am trying to find details, of what I think may be his first marriage to see if I can track back further with his father’s details. All I can find is this, on ancestry.

Cheshire, England, Select Bishop’s transcripts

13 September 1835
Cheadle, Cheshire

Henry Brabson
Sarah Brabson

FHL film number 1655429

Can anyone please advise how I might find more about that marriage?

Thank you.

The image of the marriage is on Find My past
Henry Brabson of this parish and Sarah Armstrong of this parish were married by banns 13 Sep 1835.Both made their mark.
Wit George Smith and Bernard McCartney.
As it is before 1837 there are no father's occupations or address.

H Brabson is in the rate books for Mancherster at Neden's Crt in 1833 .He is renting from John Barton.
He was liable for 12 ' poor rate each year.It is off Lees St.He was also there in 1832 as Henry

The possible children for Henry with his first wife can be found on the GRO index ,mother Armstrong
Mary Ann Mar qtr 1840 Manchester
Elizabeth June 1842 died Sep qtr 1842
Elizabeth Dec qtr 1844 possible death Mar qtr 1849 as Elizabeth Brebson age 4.

Henry and Janet Campbell don't seem to have children born in England and like you I can't see a marriage.

There is a possible death cert index for Henry on Scots people
Henry Brambson at Hutchesontown 1867 age 52 years.
This might give his parents .

Sorry but i can't see his parents

ps I can see on the 1841 census Elizabeth St Manchester
Henry Brabazon 75 cotton weaver Ireland
Anne 55 Ireland
John 20 cotton weaver N
James 15 cotton spinner Lancashire
Catherine 15 same Lancashire
Charles Mc Alistor 15 same Lancashire

I wonder if they could be family

Thank you Ciderdrinker. You have found ‘my’ Henry’s death and through that, the previous generation. I’ll work on the other leads too. Really appreciate your help.
