Grandmothers birth south africa

Postby LintottM » Tue Apr 16, 2019 7:03 am

I have managed with the help of kind people on this forum to find records for my great grandparents and also great great grandparents which is amazing but for some reason I cannot find a birth record for my grandmother:
Doreen Agnes Johnston 22.12.1917
As a child I was told she was born in Johannesburg and then moved to Capetown. Her marriage certificate states her birthplace as Cape Province only.
As it is only just over a 100 years since she was born would that mean her birth records are still closed? She died in 1994 in Wales.
Her parents were Malcolm Johnston and Ellen Sophia Johnston (nee Brits/z)
Would anyone know how I could find this information if at all?
I have asked my family and no one seems to have her birth certificate.

The link below is a very helpful source for South African research. I had a look for your grandmother's birth/baptism (South Africa, Birth and Baptism Records, 1700s-1900s) on Ancestry but couldn't find anything for her.

The earlier link for your research

topic17584.html

Doreen A was b 22 Dec 1918 according to the probate records on familysearch.

Her parents Malcolm Johnston & Ellen Sophia (nee Britz ) Johnston were married in Bulawayo Rhodesia

Malcolm died 1 March 1926 & Ellen S 1 August 1926, the latter refers to daughter Doreen as JOHNSTON......could the child have been born in Rhodesia?

Yes I had searched including 1917 and 1918 but hadn't thought she might have been born in Rhodesia.
I will have another go at searching.
Thank you.
