George Hibbert, Soldier in Jersey (1871)

Postby DianaCanada » Thu Mar 14, 2019 8:21 pm

Would like to know if the George Hibbert, drummer, 32, b. Salford, Lancashire is my ancestor's brother. Age and birthplace fit. In 1871 he is with the 15th Regiment in St. Helier, Jersey (1871 census)
My George was the son of Joseph Hibbert and Ellen Clare and appears with them in 1851, age 12. After that I have not been able to find him. His mother remarried after his father died in 1852 but I have not been able to locate her and her younger children after the late 1850's, other than her death in 1874.
This would be a nice brickwall to tear down but I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction for army records for George.
Thank you!

Thank you Mo.
I have had a look at England censuses after his assumed discharge date, but no luck.
Found a George close in age living in Missouri, US in 1880, b. England, living on a boarding house, a sawyer. Need to dig deeper on that one.

Diana - I also have a sub to Ancestry Worldwide, if you need to track George further in North America.

I've found a George Hibbert, close in age, b. Manchester, lodging in Beverley, Yorkshire in 1881. He's listed as a Chelsea Pensioner!
