Mo, thank you for all your generous hard work for me. I let my FMP subscription go a few months ago so thank you for looking George up.
Sadly, this does not look like my guy, as his father should be Joseph, silk dyer. Everything else fits, so it's frustrating!
One thing, my George is registered in Chorlton district in 1839 and baptized at Christ Church chapelry, Hulme, Lancs. On the 1851 census he is listed as being born in Salford. From what I can glean from baptisms, the family probably moved to Salford after George's birth and before the next child, who is definitely registered in Salford (so happy the Gov certificate site now lists the mother's maiden name, Hibbert is not uncommon in Manchester area). Someone was obviously confused, and it could have been the enumerator. George's father's Joseph's bp is unreadable which has contributed to that brick wall.

Later I will see if I can identify George the soldier in Beverley, in Lancashire the 1851, though it is quite damaged.

Again, thanks for everyone's help!

Diana - who did Ellen Hibbert marry after her husband died in 1852? And you're unable to locate her and younger children in the 1861 and 1871 census records? Did Ellen die in Salford?

Was the last child born to Joseph and Ellen a son, also named Joseph? On FMP, there is a record in the England & Wales, Crime, Prisons & Punishment, 1770-1935 collection. Probably not their son, but wanted to throw the record out there anyway, as this convict 'operated' in the Salford area.

FYI: on the actual image, the physical description for this particular chap is beyond belief - all sorts of peculiar markings, e.g. tattoo-like 'designs'... and a bracelet! Blimey, I wouldn't like to have happened upon him down a dark alley. :o

Ellen married Richard Hawthornthwaite. I don't know how to put the link here but I had a long thread about that back in 2017. If you search Richard's wonderful surname you will find the thread. I am confident this Ellen is the correct one, and I was able to find her death, Richard was still alive at that point. Ellen died in Manchester, at a work house.
I don't know what happened to the youngest Joseph, b. 1852 (his mother was about 46, god bless her), he was the third son by that name. I haven't found that fits, but I am still looking.
