Do these signatures match? Edward Knight 1788-1849

Postby berylfish » Sat Mar 09, 2019 12:10 am

Is any member of the forum a handwriting expert? If so I would be delighted if they could give me an opinion as to whether the attached two signatures match. They were written 20 years apart so allowance could be made for slight variation. It is my only hope of tracing the origins of Edward Knight born 1788 (according to his death certificate).

TBH, I don't think they are from the same person.

Taking into account the 20 year difference, I do think they are the same, especially his surname, with the distinctive capital K.
Admittedly the forename is different, but this is similar to my own signature, which varied greatly until I settled on my current style. Comparing the two styles, one would never guess I signed them both :D

Oh - I was going to say that the "K" is formed quite differently in the two! And the "ht" on the end is much more complex in the first...
