Alice Middlemiss

I would be interested to hear from anyone who has Alice Middlemiss on their tree, or knows of her please. She married Albert Wilson in 1883 and they had daughters called Mabel and Beatrice. I have no birthdate for Alice.

This would seem to be her...

Alice Jane Middlemiss - Registration Apr-May-Jun 1859 Newington Vol 1d, pg 199
Mother’s maiden name FREEMANTLE

Marriage certificate has her name as Alice Jane and her father as Thomas Middlemiss (ancestry has it transcribed as Middlemass), a banker’s clerk and Albert’s father as Joseph a publican.

She is on the 1861 census with parents Thomas and Mary Middlemiss, which would give her mother‘s maiden name as being Mary Freemantle

The image of her baptism is on ancestry - 14 Nov 1875 at Walworth St Peter Southwark father Thomas Middlemiss and mother Mary Middlemiss.

There were a whole bunch of Middemiss children of all ages (Alice was 16) baptised on the same day and on the image you can see her date of birth as 17th March 1859

Thank you woodchal for your information. I do hope that I get some more information on this family. I have, in the past, posted notices regarding an Eliza Wilson who was Albert Wilson's mother and it is her death I am seeking. A clutching at straws time.

There is a marriage certificate for Eliza Farndon, a widow aged 37 and a Joseph Wilson, a bachelor, aged 30, on 23 May 1861 Bedworth, Warwickshire, England

Her father is given as John Goddard, so her maiden name would be Eliza Goddard (b 1824).

In 1851 census an Eliza Farndon is living with her husband Walter Farndon and a visitor (her mother?) Sarah Goddard and a few children. Eliza’s place of birth is given as Bulkington, Warickshire

This would tie in with a birth registration for Albert Wilson with a mother’s maiden name of Goddard 1862 M Quarter in DERBY (Volume 07B Page 386) and a sister Laura Wilson 1864 J Quarter in POPLAR UNION (Volume 01C Page 627)

Joseph was a widow by 1881 census, when he has a daughter Laura living with him (born 1864) in Leicester. Joseph was a publican and seems to have moved around quite a bit.

Looking at deaths for an Eliza Wilson, with the right age throws up this possibility

WILSON, ELIZA aged 52 GRO Reference: 1875 M Quarter in POPLAR Volume 01C Page 495.

Poplar was where a Laura Wilson was born to a mother with the maiden name Goddard. I think it might be worth getting the certificate and seeing who the informant was.

Thank you woodchal.
The information you have given regarding Eliza is correct and already in my records.
I have a list of possible deaths for Eliza, but not the one you have suggested and the age is right.
I shall apply for the certificate and if it is the correct one my thanks to you, but will keep you informed.

I'd found these baptisms just before reading Woodchal's post mentioning them, so rather than waste them:
St Peter Walworth, Southwark, November 14th 1875
born March 27th 1857, Ada Elizabeth Middlemiss
born March 17th 1859, Alice Jane Middlemiss
In both cases, parents are Thomas and Mary Middlemiss of Avenue Road, father's occ banker's clerk.
A week later, same church, Nov 21st 1875
born Oct 9th 1862, Martha Eleanor Middlemiss
born 15th Feb 1867, Edward Thomas Middlemiss
ditto re parents

I have just looked at Deceased Online and this death does not appear! I would like to find the burial of this lady to discover if there is more information on her.

Buried at the City of London Cemetery, 22 February 1875. Age 52 years.
