I have had a go at enhancing the photo and then cropping it to the faces. In my view the one standing has light eyes (almost translucent), whereas the one sitting has dark eyes. My interpretation is that the one standing is likely to have quite piercing blue eyes and the one seated being brown. If I am not mistaken there is evidence of a mole to the left of the nose/face on the man standing.

Just an opinion

I agree that the man standing appears to have a mole to the left of his nose - either that or an imperfection in the photograph. Without referring back to the description I had put his height at around 5ft 6ins.

Great work by woodchal.
I thought the same about the eyes. But the mole should clinch it for titch.

The one standing is JFP. I think there is no wart it is a mark on the film. I have blown up my original copy and cannot see a wart. Attached is the photo of JFP (sorry I could not crop etc) in uniform. I can not see a mole, can you?
On JWT I contacted the 9th museum in Derby and they say he was mobilised in Aug 1914, wounded in Nov 14, and demobbed 03.2.1919.
Thanks Woodchal, ianbee, and Avaline

Looking at the second photograph I still think there might be a mole or birthmark on the left side of his nose (right side as you look straight on), although it's possible that it's just a shadow.

It's interesting though that on both occasions he's been photographed from the other side, possibly to minimise it's appearance?
