John Baptist LePere -

Postby Eleanorsamwellchow » Tue Feb 19, 2019 8:06 am

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could help me find dob and date of death for John Baptist LePere. I will set out the facts.

My second great grandfather is William George LePere norm circa 1867 and married Mary Ann Jones. William’s father was John Creed LePere born 1823 and died 1895. I have a baptism record for John Creed LePere in 29 February 1824 with father John LePere and Phebe Amelia Creed. There is a marriage certificate between John Baptist LePere and Phebe Creed dated [. ]. The census in 1851 shows Phebe LePere and her son and Phebe was noted as a widow. I cannot find any records for the 1841 census.

Could someone help me to find the following

John baptist DOB and place of birth
John batist date of death
The 1841 census information for the family.

Thank you in advance.

In 1841 in London, there is a "Peter" Le Pere with John.
The original is faded, so, the "t" kind of looks like a "b."

FindMyPast records several John Baptiste Le Pere's as Napoleonic War prisoners.
One says he was born in 1783 in "Newfchateau?" Others say Spain, France, and Luxembourg.

John lePere still alive 1833 on Westminster poor law records at Beaufort Buildings Westminster st Clement Danes .
The page says he left in the fourth quarter owing money.
"He ran away ,don't know where -very poor -arrears cannot be obtained."
£5 12 6 was owed.

He'd been there since 15 Dec 1827

The marriage was at St Ann's Soho 2 Feb 1823.

1841
H107 4726 9 28 51
Fleur de Lis Court, St Dunstan in the West, West London
'Peter' Le Pere 40 1801 'Printer'
John Le pere 15 (1826) Middlesex

Phoebe died in 1857 maybe her death cert will confirm her marital status, you them have a time frame

If John died pre 1 July 1837 you are reliant on Parish Records and not all of those are on line....

Thank you. I managed to find the above information but not when he died or was born. Is there anyway to find more information out on prisoners of war? What would happen to them after the war ended?

Awhile ago, Who-Do-You-Think-You-Are did a show on (Rob Lowe's ancestor?), a German Prisoner of War during the American Revolution. The prisoners stayed in a church until the end of the war. He decided to stay because he had no family back home.

Also, a few years ago, the Daughters of the War of 1812 awarded a grant to St Michael and All Angels Church in Princeton, England, which was built by American Prisoners during that war.

The British National Archives would probably be a good place to look for information.
