Burial site of Sir Henry Edwards MP 1820 - 1897

I am a Trustee for Weymouth Town Charities. Sir Henry Edwards was the benefactor of our charity in Melcombe Regis and Weymouth. He was MP for the borough between 1867 - 1885. I have compiled a short biography of Sir Henry for our website but have hit the proverbial 'brick wall' as top where he is buried. I believe his death is recorded at Hanover Place in early 1897 (He died on 4th Feb 1897 at 53 Berkeley Square). Our charity would be very grateful if anyone could kindly assist us as to where his final resting place may be so we may visit his grave and accord him this record officially. Many thanks, Stuart McLeod

There are many newspaper articles concerning his death.

They point to service at St Georges Church, Hanover Square, followed immediately by a cremation at Woking. It then appears that his ashes were given, by his Executors, to Weymouth Corporation with a possible interrment at St Mary's Weymouth??

Further to the above:-
The Western Morning News dated 9 October 1897 states that Sir Henry's ashes were conveyed to Weymouth and placed in a vault, in a local cemetery at Melcombe Regis, over which a public memorial was to be placed.
Hopefully this gives you a starting point to look through the local registers.

Final Note
A memorial, in the manor of a 24 foot high granite column, was placed in the cemetery in May 1898.
